Members of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly have finally confirmed the president’s nominee for the position of metropolitan chief executive.
Ernest Arthur managed to reach the two-thirds threshold needed to be confirmed as MCE for Cape Coast after securing 45 YES votes as against 18 NO votes.
He had failed to secure two-thirds of the vote to be confirmed as the MCE for Cape Coast for the second time on 7 October.
The meeting to hold the vote was characterised by drama and a disorderliness that nearly marred the whole process.
It took the intervention of the police and the Omanhen of Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II to restore calm.
Addressing a press conference, the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South, Mr Kweku Ricketts Hagan said the electoral process failed abysmally.
He said the Presiding member failed to issue the president’s letter of renomination and that makes the process in its entirety illegitimate.
“The Presiding member has been extremely diabolic and difficult in this process.”
