Northern Region: PURC urges customers to act responsibly

The regulator is asking consumers to operate within the confines of the law to avoid any form of confrontations with utility providers

The Northern regional directorate of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has called on consumers of water and electricity in the Northern Region to regularly pay their bills to avoid disconnection.

The Northern regional manager of PURC, Edward Boduah said that the regulations governing the conduct and operations of consumers and service providers were promulgated to create and maintain a healthy relationship between the two parties.

As a regulator, the PURC’s mandate among other things is to ensure compliance with these obligations by all parties.

The call comes after what he described as a seeming rancour between some utility providers and consumers in Tamale.

The consuming public was therefore encouraged to continue to pay their bills regularly, use service for the purpose for which it was contracted, avoid illegal connections, not to tamper or interfere with or damage utility equipment, grant employees or agents of the service providers safe and reasonable access to their premises among others.

Boduah also stressed the need for consumers with complaints to report their concerns to the service providers, and if not satisfied with the outcome of their engagements, report to the commission for redress.
