The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has arrested 320 people in Kumasi for their alleged involvement in a large-scale fraud and human trafficking operation linked to the network marketing company, QNET.
According to a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs for the Executive Director, EOCO said the arrests were made following simultaneous operations at two locations in the Ashanti Regional capital.
The exercise was conducted by the agency’s Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, which has been investigating QNET-related activities over several months.
Details
Preliminary investigations revealed that 25 of the suspects are believed to be the main perpetrators, while 295 others are considered victims of human trafficking and employment scams carried out under the guise of QNET’s operations.
“This operation marks the largest anti-human trafficking operation in the country,” EOCO stated, adding that it follows an earlier raid two weeks ago that led to the arrest of more than 26 persons in Kasoa.
EOCO described the Kumasi arrests as a major breakthrough in its efforts to combat human trafficking and organised crime in Ghana. The suspects and victims are currently undergoing screening, while further investigations continue.
Close collaboration
The Office also noted that it is working closely with QNET officials to clamp down on the misuse of the company’s brand name by individuals and groups who defraud innocent citizens through fake job and investment schemes.
“We commend the collaborative efforts of QNET in this regard and look forward to continued cooperation to bring perpetrators to justice,” the statement said.
EOCO reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the public from fraudulent activities and urged citizens to report suspicious transactions or recruitment offers to its offices.
The agency assured Ghanaians that it remains dedicated to detecting, investigating, and prosecuting economic and organised crimes across the country.
