Entrepreneurship is the safest investment in 2026, says life coach

Entrepreneurship remains one of the safest investment options for Ghanaians in 2026, according to entrepreneur and life coach Kwabena Obeng Darko.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Friday (16 January), Obeng Darko said most young people do not have the capital required for traditional investments such as treasury bills or government bonds, making business development a more realistic starting point.

“You cannot invest money that you don’t have,” he said. “So the first question is how do I build something that creates value so people can give me money?”

He urged young men and women to identify problems within their communities and build solutions around them, noting that business ideas do not require large capital to begin.

According to him, time, intelligence, skills and networks are the true forms of capital, not money alone.

He cited examples of young entrepreneurs who started businesses with minimal resources, including a young man who began a laundry service with just five cedis and later expanded into multiple ventures.

Obeng Darko also dismissed the notion that investing is only for the wealthy, arguing that success is built gradually.

“You don’t wait for big money to start. If you start with big money without the skills and temperament, you will lose it,” he said.

He cautioned against scams promising quick returns, describing them as products of ignorance and impatience. Genuine wealth creation, he said, takes time and ethical discipline.

On salaried employment, Obeng Darko was blunt, describing salary as unreliable and beyond an individual’s control.

“What is reliable is what you build,” he said, urging workers to develop multiple income streams to protect themselves against economic shocks.

He concluded that financial freedom is not about luxury but about control over one’s time and choices, calling on young people to invest in their minds and develop financial intelligence rooted in Ghana’s reality.
