Creatives will make “serious” politicians, says Baba Sadiq

Baba Sadiq aspires to run as Member of Parliamentary for Okaikoi Central on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) in the next election

Businessman and founder of 3Music Awards, Sadiq Abdulai Abu has debunked the perception that creatives will not be taken serious when they venture into politics and he is even advising it is time they took up statesmanship.

Abu, popularly known as Baba Sadiq, believes it is a very wrong impression and he is calling on his colleagues nursing political ambitions not to be discouraged but pick up the mantle.

In a chat with the Graphic Showbiz, Baba Sadiq said, “it is far from the truth, there is no way anyone will see us as not serious when we decide to go into politics. I always say that the creative industry is a serious business if we do our things right. In fact, we can make a lot of money from the creative space—movies, music among others if we do our things right.

“I believe any creative person will do well when voted into power. The politicians use us to campaign for them but I feel it is about time we filled positions in the political space and make decisions that affect lives positively”, he said.

Baba Sadiq said there were celebrities interested in politics but are afraid they would be stigmatised by their fans so they shelve such ideas.

“I have not experienced any attacks from anyone since I declared my intension to go into politics, rather, I have received support from my friends and colleagues in the creative sector.

“As it stands now, only a handful of creatives are into politics but I want to use this opportunity to tell those interested to boldly come out and go into politics. We the creatives have following and influence and I believe it will be easier for us to be heard if we want to drive home any message,” he stated.

Talking about why he decided to stand in Okaikoi Central on the ticket of the NDC, Baba Sadiq  said he believed there is so much he can do for his community.

“Already, I have been doing a lot in my constituency and I believe when given the nod, I can do more. After doing my background checks, I know my chances are very bright and I will make my community proud,” he said.

For the past 17 years, Baba Sadiq has worked in the entertainment and media space.
