Energy Minister joins ECG revenue mobilisation taskforce to retrieve money from debtors

ECG is currently rounding up a nationwide revenue mobilisation exercise to recover payment for all unpaid customer bills amounting to over GHC5.7 billion

The Minister of Energy, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh on Wednesday joined the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) revenue mobilization taskforce to retrieve money from some companies indebted to the state-owned firm.

ECG is currently rounding up a nationwide revenue mobilisation exercise to recover payment for all unpaid customer bills amounting to over GHC5.7 billion.

The company has so far recovered over GHC2 billion of the debt as it enters the final day of the exercise.

Sharing the news on Facebook on Wednesday (19 April), Prempeh said the move is aimed at supporting ECG to send strong signals to it debtors.

“The viability of the electricity distributor, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) remains critical in our quest at ensuring a robust energy sector for our country. It is for this reason that, earlier today, I led the ECG revenue mobilization taskforce to some companies indebted to the company for non-payment of electricity bills.”

“This exercise was to send a clear signal that the operation being carried out by the ECG for some time now, has ministerial support, because as a country we cannot continue to countenance the attitude of non-payment of bills, among other illegalities and expect optimal service delivery,” Prempeh posted.
