Election 2024: NDC not proving to be a credible alternative, says Samoa Addo

NDC has expressed disappointment at its Minority caucus in Parliament who voted to approve six new ministers appointed by President Akufo-Addo

A member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Nii Kpakpo Samoa Addo has chastised the party for failing to live up to the expectations of its supporters and Ghanaians.

His comment is in reference to the approval of President Akufo-Addo’s six ministerial nominees by Parliament last week despite a directive from party executives for their MPs to vote against them. The opposition NDC has expressed disappointment at its Minority caucus in Parliament who voted to approve the six nominees.

Three of the 275 MPs eligible to vote were absent from the House. Of the remaining 272 members, 270 successfully cast their ballot. One member abstained and there was one rejected ballot.

“If you’ve changed party leadership and you’re getting these results – open rebellion, clearly there’s a problem,” Samoa Addo said on Asaase 99.5 Accra’s news analysis show, The Forum, on Saturday (25 March). “How are you going to address that problem? We have a bigger battle ahead.”

“We have to take drastic steps to address a party that is declining in confidence. As it is now, the NPP mantra that there is no credible alternative seems to be true. Where is our credibility as opposition?”  he asked.

“No one likes a chaotic party. We are not proving ourselves to be a credible alternative, and it is a problem. We need to get it together.”
