Ho West: We didn’t receive Mahama’s GHC40 “T&T”, say delegates

Delegates in Ho West constituency have bemoaned that they have not received their share of the money, calling on their constituency chairman, Tetteh Nukomeko, to give an account of the disbursement of the fund

A group calling itself concerned delegates and branch executives of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ho West constituency has petitioned the party’s regional executives over the GHC40 transportation per delegate from John Mahama.

Prior to the NDC’s 13 May presidential and parliamentary primary election, Mahama gave GHC40 per delegate across the 275 constituencies to augment the party’s support. Mahama’s spokesperson, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, said the money was to cover travel expenses of delegates to the various polling centres.

Delegates in Ho West constituency have bemoaned that they have not received their share of the money, calling on their constituency chairman, Tetteh Nukomeko, to give an account of the disbursement of the fund.

The group, led by Eric Anku, presented a petition to the NDC leadership at the Volta regional headquarters on Monday 19 June.

Anku said, “Our money…has been received by the chairman [Tetteh Nukomeko] …we are demanding our GHC40.”

He noted that, the constituency has 1,330 delegates, thus GHC53,200 was sent to the constituency.

Anku alleged that delegates funded their own transportation to the polling centres on the day of the primary election.

The group has given a two-day ultimatum to the constituency chairman to provide the money or “…he will not like the other side of us. We’ll hit the ground; we’ll do a massive demonstration to draw our grievances to the top hierarchy.”

The group further alleged that, Nukomeko is leading the party in the wrong direction, saying if nothing is done, the NDC may lose votes in the constituency. Nukomeko has been accused of corruption and misconduct.

Anku said, “What we’re trying to tell the national executives and Ghanaians is that, Ho West executives are divided. They are controlled by one dictator – our chairman. Whatever he says is final. We are trying to draw the attention of the national executives to investigate our chairman.”

Meanwhile, when the chairman was contacted after the petition, he declined to speak to the allegations. He said in a phone call, “I don’t have time to speak on that.”
