Electrochem Ghana refutes allegations in Fourth Estate’s investigative documentary

Electrochem Ghana has refuted claims made in an investigative piece by The Fourth Estate titled “The Battle for West Africa’s Largest Salt Deposit.”

The company clarified that its concession spans 41,000 acres, not the 39,000 acres stated in the report, emphasising that the concession was legally granted and ratified by Ghana’s Parliament.

Dismissing allegations of local fishermen losing access to the lagoon, the company highlighted initiatives such as the Community Pan Initiative and the Tributer Scheme, which aim to empower locals through salt production while generating significant economic benefits for the community.

In a statement issued on Wednesday (11 December), Electrochem Ghana rejected allegations of human rights abuses connected to its operations in the area.

The company underscored its financial contributions, including over GHC 3.4 million in royalties and GHC 2.7 million in ground rent paid from 2021 to 2024.

These contributions, it noted, demonstrate its commitment to supporting both the local community and the nation’s economy.

Electrochem Ghana maintains that it operates transparently and in accordance with all legal and regulatory requirements, reaffirming its dedication to sustainable development and community empowerment in the Ada area.
