MMDCEs list to be released Sunday 19 September

The Local Government Minister, Dan Botwe, will address the media on Sunday 19 September to put out the official list of MMDCEs

The much-anticipated list of President Akufo-Addo’s appointees for the offices of metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives (MMDCEs) will be made public on Sunday 19 September 2021 during a press briefing at the Ministry of Information, Asaase Radio can confirm.

The Minister of Local Government, Dan Botwe, will take his turn at the weekly briefing to put out the official list he received from the president this week.

Confirmed list

President Akufo-Addo submitted the list of MMDCEs to Botwe on Thursday 16 September 2021, the director of communications in the Office of the President, Eugene Arhin, disclosed in a post on Facebook.

In his post, Arhin confirmed that the president has finalised the list of nominees and that the minister will announce the names shortly.

 

Expected appointments

Elizabeth Sackey, a former deputy Greater Accra regional minister in the first-term government of President Akufo-Addo, and 36 other women are expected to be named in the approved list of MMDCEs.

Sackey is tipped to replace Mohammed Nii Adjei Sowah as the chief executive officer of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).

MMDCEs to be retained

Two female MMDCEs who are tipped to retain their positions are Catherine Reckling, the district chief executive for Sekyere South in the Ashanti Rgion, and Martina Appiah Nyantakyi, the municipal chief executive officer for Ahafo Ano North, also in the Ashanti Region.

Diana Attaa-Kusiwaa, the municipal chief executive for Nkoranza South in the Bono East Region, is also expected to retain her position.

So is Margaret Darko, the municipal chief executive for Suhum in the Eastern Region.

New entrants

The newcomers to the role of MMDCE include Josephine Awuku Ansaa Inkoom for Ayensuano, one of the 33 districts in the Eastern Region, Anna Adukwei Addo for Tema West Municipal Assembly, one of the ten newly created metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs) in Greater Accra, and Zuweiratu Mada Nashiru as district chief executive for Chereponi in the North East Region.

The three women will be taking their place among the leaders of the 260 MMDAs across Ghana.
