PHOTOS: Akufo-Addo, Mahama call on family of late Jerry Rawlings

Akufo-Addo described the contributions of Jerry Rawlings to the development of Ghana as enormous

The President, Nana Akufo-Addo, and the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, on Friday (13 November 2020) called on the family of late Jerry Rawlings in separate visits to commiserate with them.

Rawlings died on Thursday, 12 November at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital at age 73.

Akufo-Addo described the contributions of Rawlings to the development of Ghana as enormous and indicated the readiness of government to offer him a befitting state burial.

For his part, Mahama said the loss was not only for the family, but for the entire NDC fraternity. He said the party stands in readiness to play whatever role it had to play to ensure a smooth send off for the founder.

Akufo-Addo and Mahama have suspended their campaigns following the demise of the giant political figure, who ushered Ghana into the Fourth Republic in 1992 – the longest democratic journey of the West African nation.
