NDC banned from further protests in Accra, say police

Supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been protesting the 7 December election results claiming it was “flawed”

The Accra Regional Police Command has secured a restraining order against the National Democratic Congress (NDC), from embarking on further protests and demonstrations in Accra.

“In a matter between the Republic (Ghana Police Service) and National Democratic Congress and Kobina Ade Coker, the High Court, under Justice Elfreda Amy Dankyi (Mrs) has prohibited all NDC intended protests from Sunday 20 December 2020 – 10 January 2021,” a statement signed by DSP Effia Tenge, head of public affairs unit of the Ghana Police Service has said.

John Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has stated that the party will take all legitimate steps available to reverse what he describes as “a flawed election”.

Addressing a news conference at the NDC headquarters on Thursday night (10 December), Mahama said the party will not accept the results of the elections.

“I urge you all to keep your confidence in Ghana and keep betting on the success of our democracy. This is a test of our ability within this democratic system to rise to the occasion and seek redress to write all wrongs to seek justice and to make every vote count and to respect the sovereign will of the people,” he said.
