Davido hints on Afro Nation going to Nigeria this year

“Afro Nation is going to Lagos for the first time, so that’s gonna be fire,” Davido said in a recent interview on Hot 97

Nigerian music star, Davido has hinted that Nigeria will host this year’s Afro Nation festival for the first time.

This comes wew months after the chief executive officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Akwasi Agyemang disclosed that other countries were fervently working to have festivals such as Afro Nation and Afro Future formerly known as Afrochella in their countries.

“Afro Nation is going to Lagos for the first time, so that’s gonna be fire,” Davido said in a recent interview on Hot 97”.

The latest information by the Fall hit-maker strengthens earlier comments by Akwasi Agyemang for Ghana to work to preserve the chance of organising festivals such as Afro Nation and AfroFuture.

In an interview with Accra based Asaase 99.5 Accra earlier this year, Agyemang disclosed that his outfit was ready to prove the impact of such events through the ‘December in GH’ initiative.

“We want to go back to cabinet and say ‘this is the document, this is what we did in ‘December in GH’, this is what they are saying, this is the impact, these are the numbers that came in; for us to sustain this to a level.”

“Other countries are pushing. I mean I know, Ruddy, talk to the Afrochella guys and Little Havana. People have approached them. Countries have approached them to bring the events to them,” he is quoted to have said.

Afro Nation is an all-inclusive music and arts festival meant to celebrate and eulogise African culture across various continents, not just Africa.

The maiden edition was held in 2019 after the organisers signed a five-year partnership deal with the Government of Ghana.

However, the event was put on hold the next year following the outbreak of coronavirus and its resultant effects on events and ban on social gatherings.

Last year, the event organised by Live Nation, Event Horizon, Smade Entertainment, and Memories of Tomorrow returned with a bang where revelers were entertained with performances by America’s Meek Mill as headline artiste, Nigeria’s P Square, Tiwa Savage, Rema, Ckay and Ghana’s team of Kuami Eugene, KiDi, Gyakie and Camidoh among others at the two days festival.
