Election 2028: party support crucial; you cannot win alone – Kodua to NPP aspirants

The general secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua/NDC/Bawku Conflict

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Thursday urged its presidential aspirants to put unity and cooperation ahead of rivalry, saying winning the party’s flagbearer race would be meaningless without collective effort to secure victory in the 2028 general elections.

Speaking at the signing of a peace pact ahead of the party’s 31 January primary, General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong said no single candidate could win national power on their own.

“Please, all of you should understand that none of you alone, even when you win, can secure our victory in 2028. And therefore, you will need the support of your brothers to be able to win the elections in 2028,” Kodua said.

Assurance

He said the primaries should be seen not only as a test of internal popularity but as a step towards strengthening the party for the next general election, adding that party leaders would lead a reconciliation process after the vote.

“And I can assure you that as administrator of the party, every support that we need to give to all our aspirants and even after the elections, the process of reconciliation to bring everybody on board, you can trust us that we are fully prepared and ready to support you,” he said.

All NPP presidential hopefuls signed the peace pact, part of efforts by the party to prevent internal disputes and maintain cohesion during what is expected to be a closely contested race.

The 31 January primary will produce the NPP’s candidate for the 2028 elections, with election watchers noting that early reconciliation among aspirants could play a decisive role in the party’s electoral fortunes.
