Election 2028: NPP sets 31 January 2026 for presidential primaries

The announcement follows the National Council’s adoption of a proposal from the party’s constitution review committee, locking in the date for the internal contest to elect a flagbearer

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) will hold its presidential primaries on 31 January 2026, General Secretary Justin Frimpong Koduah has confirmed.

The announcement follows the National Council’s adoption of a proposal from the party’s constitution review committee, locking in the date for the internal contest to elect a flagbearer.

Koduah also clarified that the timing of the primaries does not require endorsement by the delegates conference.

The date for our presidential primaries is set for January 31, 2026. That will be the date that we shall hold our presidential primaries. Because there is going to be a proposal or motion for amendment of our constitution, a planning committee has been put in place.”

In a related development, a nine-member committee led by former Bekwai MP, Joseph Osei Owusu, has been tasked with planning the party’s national delegates conference in July 2025. That conference is expected to consider other proposed amendments to the party’s constitution.
