Election 2024: Declare Ablekuma North parliamentary results now – GBA to EC

In a strongly worded resolution issued at its 2025 Mid-Year Conference held in Accra, the Association expressed deep concern over what it describes as a “democratic deficit” in the constituency

The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) is calling for immediate action to resolve the prolonged uncertainty surrounding the Ablekuma North parliamentary elections, nearly five months after the 2024 general polls.

In a strongly worded resolution issued at its 2025 Mid-Year Conference held in Accra, the Association expressed deep concern over what it describes as a “democratic deficit” in the constituency. It noted that despite voters casting their ballots on 7 December 2024, the Electoral Commission (EC) has yet to declare an official winner.

“The people of Ablekuma North deserve representation in Parliament,” the GBA stated. “Their right to political participation cannot be indefinitely suspended.”

The Bar Association urged the EC, the Ghana Police Service, and the 2024 Election Security Task Force to take “immediate and necessary steps” to complete the collation of results and officially declare the outcome of the election.

The impasse has raised constitutional concerns, especially as Parliament continues its legislative work without the full complement of elected representatives. Some civil society groups have also called for greater transparency over what led to the delay in the collation process.

The GBA’s intervention is likely to increase pressure on the EC to explain the reasons behind the silence and restore confidence in the country’s electoral processes.

The Electoral Commission has not yet responded to the GBA’s statement.
