Election 2020: Retire NDC’s Sam George, First Lady encourages Ningo-Prampram

The First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, says after 28 years of voting for the National Democratic Congress, it’s about time Ningo-Prampram tried the NPP

Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the First Lady, has urged residents of Ningo-Prampram to vote for a representative from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to boost development projects in the constituency.

The First Lady said that even though local people have been choosing their MPs from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the past 28 years, they cannot boast of any appreciable development in the constituency.

She is therefore urging the people to vote against the current MP, Sam George, of the NDC.

Mrs Akufo-Addo made these comments as she toured Ningo-Prampram in the Greater Accra Region and interacted with residents to canvass votes for President Akufo-Addo and the NPP in the 7 December general election.

She told the people that though the NPP has never won the Ningo parliamentary seat since the inception of the Fourth Republic, the few significant projects executed in the constituency have happened under NPP governments.

Huge greenhouse

She said under the government of President John Agyekum Kufuor, the constituency was provided with a police station and police quarters, with water supply extended from Sege to Prampram. Under the Akufo-Addo-led NPP government Ningo-Prampram has benefited from the One District, One Factory (1D1F) initiative, Mrs Akufo-Addo said.

Three factories have been built in the constituency, she said. The largest greenhouse in West Africa has also been built, as well as a new market. Electricity supply has been extended and new storm drains constructed.

“All these came to Ningo-Prampram only when the NPP is in government and even though we have no NPP MP to bring your voice closer to government,” she said.

The MP for Ablekuma North, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie, who accompanied the First Lady on her visit, told residents to consider the many social intervention policies implemented by the NPP. She said these are measures such as the introduction of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) under President Kufuor, free senior high school, 1D1F and the recent reduction of electricity and and cancellation of water tariffs under President Akufo-Addo.

She urged the people of Ningo-Prampram to consider these things and vote for the NPP.
