GRIDCo: Parts of Ghana experiencing power outages because of gas shortage

GRIDCo says the limited supply of gas has resulted in a supply gap of 650MW at peak time, which will affect consumers in some parts of the country

Ghana Grid Company Ltd (GRIDCo) has announced that it is suffering limited supply of gas from the Atuabo Gas Plant and the West African Gas Pipeline.

According to the national power distributor, this has resulted in a supply gap of 650MW at peak time, which will affect consumers in certain parts of the country.

A statement issued by GRIDCo on Friday (7 July 2023) said it is working to ensure that the gas supply from Atuabo is restored.

“The Ghana Grid Company Ltd (GRIDCo), the “operator” of the National Interconnected Transmission System, informs the general public that there is a deficit in thermal power generation due to limited gas supply from the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant (GPP) and the West African Gas Pipeline (WAPCo).

“This has created a supply gap of 650MW at peak time which will affect consumers in some parts of the country.

“Every effort is being made to restore gas supply from Atuabo. As the situation improves
power will be restored to affected customers,” the statement from GRIDCo said.

“The inconvenience caused is regretted.”
