Election 2020: Ghanaians will disappoint you, Akufo-Addo to Mahama

President Akufo-Addo says Ghanaians have not forgotten the hardship they went through during Mahama’s tenure and will once again turn him down

Story Highlights
  • “On 7 December 2020, in the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary elections, the Ghanaian people will prove him wrong by voting against him massively."

President Akufo-Addo has said Ghanaians will hand the Presidential Candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, a shocking defeat come 7 December.

According to him, Ghanaians have not forgotten the hardship they went through during Mahama’s tenure.

“I know former President John Mahama holds the firm believe that Ghanaians have short memories in that, we forget developments in our country after a very short while. His claim simply means that he has no respect for the people of Ghana.

“On 7 December 2020, in the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary elections, the Ghanaian people will prove him wrong by voting against him massively as a sign that they have not forgotten his abysmal performance in office a few years ago,” Akufo-Addo told party supporters at Tarkwa in the Western Region.

Short memories comment

It will be recalled that former President Mahama on 15 December 2013 at the Revival Restoration Centre of the Assemblies of God Church in Accra, said Ghanaians have short memories because they seem to have forgotten all the good things he has done for the country as President. The former President’s rather infamous comment which has been seen by many Ghanaians as an insult has featured prominently in the 2020 electioneering campaign.

Parliamentary Elections

President Akufo-Addo in his remarks made a strong case for the people of Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency to re-elect the sitting member of Parliament, George Mireku-Duker, for a second term.

“I need men and women who will support my work as President in Parliament so that every legislation that has to be passed, they can support me to do same for the good of the country. It is therefore my plea that no NPP member in this Constituency should vote “Skirt and Blouse”. No independent candidate can help this Constituency and the NPP and I do not support any independent candidate,” Akufo-Addo stated.
