The family of murdered Ejura-based social media activist, Ibrahim Mohammed aka Kaaka said it is disturbed by the continuous adjournment of the case by the Asokwa Magistrate Court.
The family registered their disappointment after it emerged that lead prosecutor in the case Chief Superintendent Kofi Blagodzi failed to show up the second time since 14 February.
The AG’s Department, through its representative, is expected to state its position on the case for trial to begin at the High Court. But that did not come on after it also emerged the suspects, who are in prison custody, were also not brought to the Asokwa Magistrate Court on Tuesday (8 March).
The spokesperson for Kaaka’s family, Nafiu Mohammed told Asaase News of his resolve to pursue the case but fears the development could thwart the quest for justice for their departed brother.
“It is quite surprising this case has seen another adjournment. This is the 14th time we have been to this court, taking into consideration the kind of stress we have been through. The little resources available to take care of the five daughters left behind by Ibrahim Mohammed are the same resources we have been using to follow the case. The family is not taking things lightly, especially when the prosecutor and the suspects are not in court. We feel things are not right,” Nafiu said.
The suspects; Issakar Ibrahim aka Anyas, Fuseini Alhassan and Kaaka’s elder brother, Iddi Mohammed have been charged with murder following the death of the Ejura-based social media activist.
“As a family we think that these series of adjournments are part of attempts to frustrate the family… But we will still follow this case until justice is served. We are sure that our brother [Idi Mohammed] is innocent and we still stand by our words”, Nafiu said.
The case has been adjourned to 22 March.
Kaaka’s death sparked protest in Ejura last year. Two people were killed after protesters clashed with security personnel deployed to the town to protect life and property.
