Egyptian ambassador to Ghana bids farewell to Akufo-Addo

Emad Hanna has been serving in Ghana for the past three years improving on the economic relations between Egypt and the West African country

The Egyptian Ambassador to Ghana, Emad Hanna, has ended his tour of duty after three years of service.

Ambassador Hanna on Thursday 19 August 2021 paid a farewell call on the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to formally announce his departure from Ghana.

He noted that his three-year period of stay in Ghana has been fruitful and has led to improvement in economic relations between Egypt and the West African country.

He added that he is excited about the fact that Ghana was chosen to be the host country for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) as well as Ghanaā€™s election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations (UN) Security Council during the time he served as his countryā€™s ambassador to Ghana.

He also commended the government and the country’s health service workers for their dedication and diligence in the fight against the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, noting that Ghana served as a model for other countries to emulate.

“Ghana and Egypt have reached a trade balance of US$100 million and I believe in the coming year and a half, it will reach 150 to 170 million dollars looking at the kind of agreements that have been signed,ā€ Ambassador Hanna said.

On his part, Akufo-Addo noted that Ghana and Egyptā€™s relationship has seen a strong growth in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He indicated that efforts to establish a joint airline between Ghana and Egypt commenced during Ambassador Hanna’s term in office and he is looking forward to the completion of the process.

“We will continue to associate with Egypt to ensure that the Africa of tomorrow is an Africa of strength, progress, and prosperity. I am grateful for the message of goodwill from Abdel Fattah Saeed Hussein Khalil el-Sisi and I want you to reciprocate the gesture of friendship to him on my behalf,” Akufo-Addo said.
