Government presents 12 buses to senior high schools in Upper West

The distribution of buses is in line with the government’s commitment to meeting logistical needs of the education sector

The government has presented 12 buses to senior high schools in the Upper West Region. This follows the distribution of 100 buses to senior high schools across the country.

The Upper West Region received 12 of the 32-seater buses, which were given out to schools that have no means of transport and need them for easy movement of students and staff.

Justin Kpan, public relations officer of the Ghana Education Service (GES) in the Upper West Region, confirmed the receipt of the buses and called on the various schools to keep them well.

Speaking with Asaase Radio’s Upper West regional correspondent, Justin Kpan said the GES in the region is very grateful to the government for the buses because the schools needed them to promote teaching and learning.

The schools which received the buses include Loggu Community Day Senior High School, Lassie Tuollu Senior High School, Han Senior High School, Sombo Senior High School, Lawra Senior High School and Nandom Senior High School.

The rest are Kanton Senior High School, Ullo Senior High Secondary School, Frances Girls of Assisi, Northern Star Senior High School, Koo Senior High School and Takpo Senior High School

Saeed A Faruk, headmaster of Northern Star Senior High School in the Wa Municipality, expressed his gratitude to the government for the buses.

He said the gift will go a long way to help the school. He said it was the first time since it was established in 2012 that the school had received a bus from the government .

More buses coming

The government procured and distributed 100 buses to a number of senior high schools, with a further 250 on the way.

The move is in fulfilment of President Akufo-Addo’s commitment not only to increase access but also to ensure that complementary resources are provided to enable the delivery of quality education to Ghanaians.

At a short ceremony presented on 30 July 2020, the vice-president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, handed over the bus keys to leaders of the selected senior high schools, drawn from the North-East, Northern, Savannah, Upper East, Upper West, Oti, Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions. Dr Bawumi urged the school heads to ensure their proper use.
