Amin Adam: Government to engage bondholders over debt restructuring

It comes after the government received counterproposals on the debt treatment scenarios from the two bondholder groups

The government is expected to kickstart discussions with bondholders in the coming weeks to fast-track debt restructuring engagements following an agreement with the official creditor committee (OCC).

It comes after the government received counterproposals on the debt treatment scenarios from the two bondholder groups.

Addressing the media at a monthly economic update on Tuesday (26 March) in Accra, Finance Minister Mohammed Amin Adam said the move is aimed at ensuring Ghana achieves the targets set under the IMF/World Bank Debt Sustainability Framework.

“In the coming weeks, the government and our advisors will start extensive discussions with bondholder representatives to advance restructuring engagements following an agreement with the OCC.”

“Ultimately, the engagements with Ghana’s commercial creditors, including bondholders are expected to ensure that Ghana achieves the targets set under the IMF/World Bank Debt Sustainability Framework.”
