The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has called on journalists in Kumasi to provide positive coverage of the company’s operations, highlighting its efforts to improve electricity supply in the Ashanti Region.
The appeal was made by ECG’s Communications Officer, Collins Manu, during the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Ashanti Regional get-together and thanksgiving service at the Longford Royal Event Center in Kumasi on Friday (7 March). The event aimed to strengthen collaboration between the media and state institutions.

Addressing the gathering, Collins Manu emphasized ECG’s commitment to enhancing power reliability through significant investments. He cited the recent commissioning of a 145MVA transformer at the Anwomaso Bulk Supply Point (BSP) as a key milestone in addressing the growing energy demand in the region.

“ECG is working tirelessly to provide a stable and safe power supply to our cherished customers. Our collaboration with GRIDCo to deploy an additional 145MVA high-capacity transformer to the Ridge BSP is part of this commitment,” he stated.
“We need the media to tell our story accurately and fairly. ECG is making strides, and we want our customers to know that we are working in their best interest. While challenges exist, we believe that showcasing our achievements will help build confidence in the system,” he added.

Manu encouraged the media to report on ECG’s progress, stressing the importance of positive narratives in fostering public trust. He urged journalists to highlight the company’s ongoing improvements, noting that balanced reporting would help the public appreciate the strides being made.
The event was graced by notable personalities, including Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Kenyase-Kwabre Hene Berima Fredua-Agyemang, NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Koduah, former ECG Board Member Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, and the Ashanti Regional Prisons Commander.
Several seasoned journalists from the region were also present, engaging in discussions on media collaboration with key state institutions.
