ECG team restores power in Ashanti Region after overnight cable fault repair
Led by the Network Maintenance Manager, Ing. James Mensah Yevunya, the team is responsible for maintaining the 33/11 kV power distribution infrastructure across the Ashanti region

A team of engineers from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has been praised for working through the night in difficult weather conditions to repair a major cable fault at the Bulk Supply Point yard in Obuasi.
The Ashanti Sub-Transmission Cable Maintenance team, supported by colleagues from ECG Obuasi, began emergency works at around 7:00 PM on Sunday, 27 April, after a fault was identified in an outdoor cable termination. Despite persistent rain, the engineers successfully restored power by 11:00 PM.
Led by the Network Maintenance Manager, Ing. James Mensah Yevunya, the team is responsible for maintaining the 33/11 kV power distribution infrastructure across the Ashanti region.
The successful operation has drawn praise from senior industry officials, including ECG’s Acting Managing Director, Ing. Kwame Kpekpena; Director of Operations, Ing. Emmanuel Akinie; Executive Secretary of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), Dr Shafic Suleman; and General Manager of Ashanti Sub-Transmission, Ing. Peter Kofi Fletcher.
“Thanks for the hard work,” said Ing. Kpekpena in a brief note of commendation.
Ing. Akinie also lauded the team’s commitment. “Your hard work and dedication have paid off,” he said. “This is to express my profound appreciation to Ashanti Sub-T and the Ashanti South Region, especially the team that worked throughout the night to repair the faulty cable and restore supply to the Obuasi substation. Well done. Keep up the excellent work. I salute.”
The Public Relations Officer for Ashanti Sub-Transmission, Collins Manu, said the effort demonstrated the broader commitment of ECG to delivering reliable and responsive power services to customers.
