ECG staff to government: Don’t extend contract of MD

The angry workers argue that extending the contract of Agyeman-Budu will be a threat to the current peaceful industrial atmosphere prevailing in the company

Workers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have called on the government to halt any attempt to extend the contract of their MD Kwame Agyeman-Budu.

Agyeman-Budu who has attained the mandatory retirement age of 60 and is still working with the company.

The angry workers argue that extending the contract of Agyeman-Budu will be a threat to the current peaceful industrial atmosphere prevailing in the company.

“Kwame Agyeman-Budu has finished his stewardship with ECG and think the appropriate and befitting thing to do is for him to retire honourably without inviting industrial disturbances and that the meeting rejected any imposition of Kwame Agyeman-Budu on ECG staff,” general secretary of the Public Utility Workers Union (PUWU), Michael Adumatta Nyantakyi told journalists at a news conference on Tuesday (15 March).

“The resolution intimated that any contract extension will not help sustain the current peaceful and congenial industrial atmosphere within the company.”

“The meeting further suggested that any new person who will be appointed in the capacity of managing director should be given specific performance targets with key performance indicators coupled with periodic monitoring by the board and key stakeholders,” Nyantakyi said.
