EC officials sort ballot boxes ahead of Akwatia by-election

Electoral Commission (EC) officials in Akwatia have kicked off the sorting of electoral materials under tight security as they prepare to dispatch ballot boxes to polling stations ahead of the upcoming by-election.

The exercise, carried out under police supervision, was observed by representatives of political parties and election monitors to ensure transparency.

The by-election, scheduled for Tuesday, has attracted strong attention, with both the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) fielding candidates.

A planned peace pact collapsed last week after the NPP rejected the NDC’s delegation during a meeting convened at the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Akwatia.

The EC has reaffirmed its preparedness to conduct a transparent and credible election in the constituency.
