The Deputy Eastern Regional Police Commander, ACP Richard Appiah, has raised concerns over the growing security risks faced by Mobile Money (MoMo) vendors in the Eastern Region.
Speaking at the 2025 MTN Media and Stakeholder Engagement in Koforidua, ACP Appiah urged vendors to adopt strict personal security measures, warning that some practices, such as counting money in public—make them vulnerable to robbery.
He advised vendors to operate in enclosed spaces and remain vigilant, urging them to report suspicious individuals to the police promptly.
The forum, organised by MTN Ghana, showcased the telecom giant’s contributions to national development and efforts to safeguard digital financial services.
Faisal Ali, Channel Manager for Mobile Money Limited, cautioned the public against responding to unsolicited calls regarding transactions, noting that MTN only contacts customers via 0244300000. He added that MTN is working under Bank of Ghana supervision to strengthen platform security.
MTN has also partnered with the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to tackle fraud and enhance public trust in its systems.
The company revealed it has implemented 173 projects this year alone—spanning education, health, and economic empowerment—in a bid to ease pressure on government resources.
