The Koforidua Magistrate Court A, presided over by Nana Ama Dabbah Fynn, has remanded a 26-year-old farmer, Godwin Darko, into police custody for allegedly killing his girlfriend at Trom Junction Five, a suburb of Koforidua in the Eastern Region.

Police prosecution said the suspect had been in a six-month relationship with the deceased, Felicia Abena Oparebea. He had a misunderstanding with her on an aborted pregnancy and stabbed her several times in the neck, killing her instantly.

Darko, after the incident ran away from the murder scene and reported to his mother who happens to be the queen mother of Suhum Nifa Ankobea. She took him to the police station to report himself.

Police prosecutor, George Defia, told the court that the murder weapon and bunch of keys used by the suspect to commit the crime are yet to be retrieved. He prayed the court to reject Darko’s plea because investigations are ongoing. Defia said the police command remains committed to unravelling the recent spousal murders in the Eastern Region.

The court accepted the plea of the prosecution, however, charged the police to ensure a speedy, effective and efficient investigation as the court will not countenance undue delays.
