Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum declares intent to run for NPP flagbearer
In a statement shared on social media under the hashtag #TheAdutwumFactor, Dr Adutwum said he was stepping forward “with humility, conviction, and a resolute heart” to offer his leadership to the party and the country

Former Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has formally declared his intention to contest for the flagbearership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), once the party officially opens nominations.
In a statement shared on social media under the hashtag #TheAdutwumFactor, Dr Adutwum said he was stepping forward “with humility, conviction, and a resolute heart” to offer his leadership to the party and the country.
The announcement adds to growing interest around the NPP’s upcoming presidential primaries, tentatively set for January 2026, pending ratification by the party’s National Delegates Conference in July.
If successful, Dr Adutwum would be seeking to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections, as the party looks to reposition itself after two terms in government.
Dr Adutwum, a former education entrepreneur and member of parliament for Bosomtwe, is widely recognised for spearheading reforms in Ghana’s education sector.
The NPP has seen a flurry of early declarations and positioning, with several party stalwarts expected to join the race once nominations are officially opened.
