North East Region: Man, 45, kills mother over missing GHC100

Neighbours say the suspect shot his mother as she tried to intervene in an argument with his siblings over GHC100

One Zakaria Alhassan, 45, has allegedly shot his mother to death in Sooba in the West Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region.

According to neighbours, the incident happened last Thursday evening after the suspect returned from a drinking spot and accused his siblings of a missing amount of GHC100.

Police investigations reveal that enquiries about the missing amount resulted in a misunderstanding between the siblings, prompting their mother to intervene.

According to an eyewitness account, “his mother, 71, asked him to stop accusing his innocent brothers, but he refused to listen to her and went inside his room and brought out a locally manufactured gun and shot her from the back.”

Alhassan has since been arrested.

The West Mamprusi Municipal police commander, DSP Cosmos Awe confirmed the incident to Asaase News.
