Asaase Radio supports Sankofa African Renaissance Festival

The festival represents a diasporan cultural sensitisation project meticulously crafted to revive and safeguard the rich cultural identity of both Ghanaians and Africans living in the diaspora

Asaase Broadcasting Company Limited has pledged to support the Sankofa African Renaissance festival, which has been launched in Accra.

The Queen Mothers Diaspora Sankofa Festival, also known as ‘The African Renaissance,’ represents a diasporan cultural sensitisation project meticulously crafted to revive and safeguard the rich cultural identity of both Ghanaians and Africans living in the diaspora.

This inaugural launch event serves as a prelude to the main festival, which is slated to take place in prominent locations such as the United States of America, Canada, the United Kingdom, and various European countries.

Speaking at the Accra launch on Friday (22 September), the head of events and partnerships at Asaase 99.5 Accra, Aaron Eggley, said: “This festival is not just a moment in time; it is a movement to rekindle the flames of African culture.”

“And to ensure that our traditions continue to thrive both here and at home and among our diasporan brothers and sisters,” he added.

Eggley, speaking on behalf of Asaase Radio‘s CEO George Andah, said the media empire is proud to support the Sankofa African Renaissance Festival.

“We are proud to stand with you in this endeavour. Our promise to you is very simple; we will provide adequate media coverage of this event and subsequent events,” Eggley added.

The theme of this year’s festival is “Rediscovery of the African Heritage.”

Meanwhile, the executive director of the National Commission on Culture, Nana Otuo Owuahene Acheampong, has highlighted the need for every individual to explore the potential of traditional leadership as a motivation for the African Renaissance.

‘‘It has become necessary for individuals and collective introspections to lead to assets that will concretise one’s identity and role in the overall skill of things.”

According to him, “it is indeed necessary to explore the profound potential of traditional leadership as a catalyst for the African Renaissance.”

“Our continent is a treasure trove of culture, traditions, and passion, each unique in its own right. Ghana’s diversity of cultures, which is evident in its languages, fashion, and festivals, is a testament to its precious treasures,” he added.

The Queen Mothers Diaspora Sankofa Festival represents an extraordinary effort to bridge cultural connections and ensure the enduring vitality of African heritage both within Ghana and among the global African diaspora.
