Jacqueline Du Baffour, host of the NSMQ Review Show and a distinguished programme manager with experience spanning global brands like Goldman Sachs and AstraZeneca, says discipline remains the single most important factor behind her success across industries.
Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (25 November), Du Baffour attributed her proessional ethos to her upbringing in Ghana, where her grandmother instilled strict habits around punctuality, schoolwork and household responsibilities.
“One thing I will absolutely propose is discipline. If you’re going through your career, that kind of discipline instilled in us from a young age is very important,” she said. “Otherwise, there is no way you can fit that many activities into such a limited amount of time.”
She explained that these early habits later shaped her ability to navigate demanding roles in banking, data analytics and project management across multiple countries.
Du Baffour, who now leads a global cross-functional team across the UK, US, Asia and other parts of Europe, said working across time zones requires both personal sacrifice and strong teamwork.
“As I’m waking up now, people in Asia are going to bed. Sometimes you have to sacrifice and wake up earlier,” she said. “But it’s a team effort. We support each other and see ourselves as a family even though many of us have never met in person.”
Her story, rooted in discipline, teamwork and adaptability, offers a message she hopes young professionals will take seriously.
“If you don’t have discipline, you can’t stay in school, and you can’t stay in the right jobs,” she added.
