Nkwanta South: Embrace sports to foster unity, MCE to youth

The MCE for Nkwanta South, Felix Owusu-Gyim, has urged the youth in the area to embrace sports as a means of building bridges and fostering a sense of community spirit to promote peace and unity.

As tribal clashes escalated in the area, a curfew was imposed on the Nkwanta township, putting all sporting activities and other forms of entertainment on hold in order to promote peace and unity among residents.

Speaking to the youth, Owusu-Gyim said that sporting events bring people from all walks of life and backgrounds together in pursuit of a common goal, emphasising the importance of fostering peace and remaining united.

Speaking at a Division 3 game between Nkwanta Young Desert Warriors and Kitare Soccer Masters organised by the local FA, Owusu-Gyim emphasised the positive impact sports can have on youth and their future when taken seriously.

The division games were part of the FA’s event to promote the best team to the Division 2 middle league.

The game between Kitare Soccer Masters and the former Division 2 champions, the Nkwanta Young Desert Warriors, ended goalless between the two teams.

The Football Association (FA) chairman in the area, Kwabena Asanyo, also stressed the importance of sports in promoting peace and unity among the youth.

He urged the youths to be ambassadors of peace and unity through sports and games .

Meanwhile, Nkwanta South district police officer ASP Agnes Ahiable assured the youths and residents of their readiness and commitment to ensure lives and properties are protected in the area.

She challenged the youths to strengthen their friendships and relationships through events and games .

This, according to her, will help eschew conflict and violence.
