The Proprietress of DestinyFaith Christian International School, Lady Reverend Selma Koomson says the school’s unique “Learn and Earn” education model is equipping students with both academic knowledge and practical skills to prepare them for the future world of work.
In an interview with Asaase News, Lady Reverend Koomson explained that the school was established in 2023 to address the high number of out-of-school children within the community and to make quality education more accessible and affordable.
“About 70% of the children in the community were not going to school because they could not afford quality education. So, we decided to establish DestinyFaith Christian International School to ensure every child receives quality but affordable education,” she said.
Within less than two years of operation, the school has grown to a population of 289 students, with an additional 60 students awaiting admission due to limited classroom space.
Lady Reverend Koomson highlighted the significant progress the school has made since its inception.
“We’ve made great impact. Most of our students can now read and write, even though they couldn’t before. The school has also won regional trophies for academic excellence and innovation,” she noted.
Unlike many traditional schools, DestinyFaith Christian International School combines the Montessori and international education systems with hands-on vocational training. Students are taught a range of entrepreneurial and technical skills including sewing, baking, make-up artistry, nail fixing, hairdressing, liquid soap and shampoo production, and other income-generating crafts.
“By the time a student completes basic education here, they have both academic knowledge and employable skills,” Lady Reverend Koomson emphasised.
She added that this practical approach, rooted in the “Learn and Earn” model ensures students are well-rounded, confident, and future-ready.
For his part, a parent, Emmanuel Asare who enrolled his children in DestinyFaith Christian International School last year shared the remarkable progress they have made since joining the school.
“I threw a challenge that if only they can meet what I’m expecting, my children are still going to be in this school but if I don’t, for that one, I’ll take them out. It’s been a year now but the kind of confidence they have when it comes to reciting, expressing themselves, they’re good. They’re doing better” Asare said.
