accident

The death toll in a tragic road crash on the Kumasi-Obuasi highway has risen to eight, after a head-on collision between a Sprinter van, a long bus, and a Toyota Corolla saloon car on Tuesday.

The incident occurred at New Ayaase, where the Sprinter van, travelling from Assin Fosu, collided with an oncoming VIP Grandbird bus. The crash also forced the Corolla off the road. Isaac Agyei, the Assemblymember for Fomena East, provided further details to Asaase News, confirming the severity of the crash.

Seven passengers in the Sprinter van died at the scene, while twelve others, including the driver of the VIP bus, sustained injuries. They were rushed to Fomena Government Hospital and St. Benito Hospital in Dompoase for treatment. Tragically, one of the injured passengers later died at Fomena Hospital, while another was referred to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for further care.

Preliminary investigations by the National Road Safety Authority revealed that the crash occurred after the Sprinter van, attempting to overtake a Toyota Corolla, collided head-on with the oncoming bus. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
