Death toll rises as Bawku chieftaincy conflict intensifies

Violence has erupted once again in Bawku as a renewed chieftaincy conflict claims multiple lives, including an 11-year-old girl who was killed in her home yesterday.

In a series of related incidents, three individuals were gunned down near the Ghana Highways Authority office on Sunday (27 October).

Reports from the region indicate that since the outbreak of shooting on Saturday (26 October), the death toll has risen to approximately 15, with 20 others sustaining various degrees of injury.

Some individuals have had to be transferred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital to receive treatment.

Security forces are struggling to contain the situation.

Asaase News gathers that the military deployment in the area is understaffed and lacks adequate vehicles to respond effectively to the spreading violence.

The Ghana Police Service, already stretched thin, has been overwhelmed by the widespread chaos.
