Death of three-year-old: Actor Lil Win charged, granted GHC50,000 bail

Lil Win, 37, has been charged with dangerous driving and negligently causing harm, contrary to Section 82 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act 1960, Act 29

The Asokore Mampong District Court has granted a GHC50,000 bail to Ghanaian actor Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win following a recent accident involving a vehicle he was driving that resulted in the death of a three-year-old boy.

He is to provide two justified sureties as part of his bail conditions, the court ordered.

Lil Win, 37, has been charged with dangerous driving and negligently causing harm. The tragic incident occurred on Saturday (25 May).

His plea was however not taken when he made his first appearance at the Asokore Mampong Court on Monday (3 June). He was seen wearing a neck brace and a gauze around his forehead while being aided to walk.

The actor’s lawyer Margaret Adjei-Twum made a strong case for his freedom citing his health status adding that his client has “come under intense police and press scrutiny”.

“Even as we speak, we have a number of pressmen in this court”, she told the presiding judge H/W Samuel Buabin Quansah while praying for bail for her client. The prosecution did not oppose this request.

The court consequently granted the request and adjourned the case to 27 June.

The actor was earlier arrested on Monday (3 June), shortly after being discharged from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and detained at the Manhyia Divisional Police Command. He was later moved to the Ashanti Central Regional Headquarters and later arraigned.
