Day 2: Six incumbent NPP regional chairpersons retained, one new face

Although a few of the regions experienced challenges that delayed the commencement of voting, the elections were generally peaceful in almost all the seven regions

Day two of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) regional elections witnessed six incumbents retaining their chairmanship positions out of seven regional elections, with a new face joining the fold on Saturday (28 May).

Ashanti Region

In the Ashanti Region, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi was re-elected as Ashanti Region chairman.

He beat his main rival Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, also known as Coka to retain the regional chairmanship position of the NPP.

Wontumi obtained 464 with his closest challenger obtaining 309.

Eastern Region

The Eastern Region chairman, Kingston Kissi decided not to run for the position again as he eyes the NPP national vice-chairmanship slot.

In his stead, two loyal and long-serving members of the party in the persons of Jeffery Konadu Addo and Kwadwo Boateng-Agyemang went toe-to-toe.

However, Jeffery Konadu Addo won the chairmanship position with 424 votes while his opponent had 202 votes.

Western Region

The Western regional chairmanship position went unopposed with Francis Ndede Siah retaining his seat.

However, two incumbent regional executives of the NPP were unsuccessful in their re-election bids.

The regional organiser, Abdul Ganiyu and regional women’s organizer, Abena Kwallah both lost their positions.

The elections were held in Eastern, Ashanti, Greater Accra, Volta, Upper West, Oti and Western regions.

Greater Accra Region

The incumbent Greater Accra regional chairman, Divine Otoo Agorhom escaped defeat by a very thin margin as he pulled 332 votes, while his contender had 326.
