Nigerian music icon Davido has shared a deeply personal reflection on fatherhood, grief, and healing—revealing that his newborn son bears an uncanny resemblance to his late child, Ifeanyi.
In a recent interview with Apple Music’s Ebro Darden, the Afrobeats sensation opened up about how the emotional weight of losing Ifeanyi in 2022 still lingers, but the birth of his twins a year later, particularly his son who looks just like Ifeanyi, has brought a profound sense of spiritual comfort.
Reflecting on the moment, Davido described the resemblance between his new son and the late Ifeanyi as “scary.”
“To come back from that and be blessed with twins just shows that God is real. And the boy looks just like my late son. It’s scary. It is like literally him. We are like, ‘No, it’s him. He came back,’” Davido said.
Ifeanyi, Davido’s first son with wife Chioma, died after a tragic drowning incident at the couple’s Lagos residence on October 31, 2022. The devastating loss pushed the singer into a period of silence and healing.
“That type of loss made me be like, ‘I’m out.’ I was just going to chill, take care of my wife and the family, and get my head right,” Davido explained.
In October 2023, exactly a year after the tragedy, Davido and Chioma welcomed a set of twins—a boy and a girl—in the United States. The timing and uncanny resemblance of the boy to Ifeanyi has left the singer and his family in awe.
For Davido, the birth of his twins is not only a blessing but also a divine sign—one that brings healing, comfort, and a sense of spiritual connection.
