Damongo: Yagbonwura celebrates 2022 Damba with a call for peace

Damba is celebrated by the chiefs and people of the Northern, Savannah, North East, Upper East and Upper West regions of Ghana.

It is from the root word “Damma nba”, which means, “shake, my father.”

It is believed that the festival is celebrated to mark the birth of the Holy Prophet Mohammed (S.A.W).

The king and overlord of the Gonjaland, who spoke through the registrar of the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs, Abutu Kapori during a grand durbar at the Jakpa Palace in Damongo called for peace in the area to attract more investors.

“Today every citizen in the Savannah Region needs to be commended for contributing and maintaining peace in the region, especially the eminent chiefs committee”, he said.

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and also MP for Damongo Constituency, Samuel Abu Jinapor said the government is committed to bring developmental projects to the Savannah Region.

The Damba was celebrated under the theme: “Reserving cultural heritage through social cohesion; the role of chiefs and citizens of Savannah Region”.
