Dabushei photography exhibition sparks climate action through visual storytelling

A powerful photography exhibition held in Dabushei, a community in the Northern Region, has sparked renewed conversations around climate change and water scarcity.

Organised by Foto4Change in collaboration with ActionAid Ghana, the exhibition used striking images to showcase the harsh realities rural communities face due to environmental changes.

The photographs depicted scenes of women rising at dawn to fetch water, children trekking across dry lands, and farmers battling failed harvests.

According to Alia Mumuni, Programme Officer at ActionAid Ghana, “Change begins with awareness. These photographs speak where words sometimes fail.”

The exhibition deeply resonated with residents. Aisha Yakubu, a mother of two, said, “That’s me. I saw myself. This is our story.” She stated that the exhibition had sparked meaningful conversations in her community about conserving water and protecting the environment.

Dorcas Kongwe, Programme Lead for Foto4Change, added, “We witnessed people visibly moved by the images, some opening up to share personal stories for the first time.”

The initiative forms part of Foto4Change’s broader goal of using visual storytelling to promote climate awareness and address water issues across Ghana’s underserved regions.

Geoffrey Buta, Team Lead for Foto4Change, stressed that the Dabushei event is just one step in a nationwide effort to inspire change through photography.

By bringing these stories to life, Foto4Change and ActionAid Ghana hope to empower communities to take control of their environmental future.
