Czech President Petr Pavel begins historic visit to Ghana to strengthen bilateral ties
Czech President Petr Pavel is set to make history today, 8 April 2025, as he arrives in Ghana for a two-day official visit—marking the first time in over sixty years that a Czech or Czechoslovak head of state has visited the West African nation

President Pavel’s visit, which follows a stop in Mauritania, signals a significant step toward deepening diplomatic and economic cooperation between Ghana and the Czech Republic.
He will be formally received at the Jubilee House in Accra, where he is expected to hold high-level talks with Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama.
At the heart of their discussions will be opportunities for economic partnership, trade, and investment. The visit comes at a time when Ghana, a country of 35 million people, continues to capture global attention for its political stability, democratic governance, and emerging economy.
The two leaders will explore areas of collaboration in key sectors including energy, infrastructure, healthcare, and education—areas where the Czech Republic is looking to expand its footprint in Africa.
As part of his itinerary on Wednesday, President Pavel will take part in a Ghana-Czech Business Forum designed to promote private sector partnerships and joint ventures between companies from both nations. The forum is expected to open new doors for trade and technological exchange.
He will also officially inaugurate the Czech House, a newly constructed diplomatic and cultural centre in Accra. The facility is intended to serve as a focal point for bilateral cooperation, cultural engagement, and consular services.
Highlighting the Czech Republic’s growing investment in Ghana’s development, President Pavel is scheduled to commission a hospital built by a Czech firm—a move that underscores Prague’s commitment to supporting healthcare infrastructure across Africa.
President Pavel and his delegation will conclude their official visit on Thursday morning before departing for Prague later in the evening.
This landmark visit is seen by analysts as a reaffirmation of the Czech Republic’s intent to build stronger, long-term partnerships on the African continent, with Ghana positioned as a key strategic ally.
