Togbe Tepre Hodo is president of Volta House of Chiefs

Togbe Tepre IV defeated the Anlo paramount chief, Togbui Sri III, in the just-held 19th election for the Volta Regional House of Chiefs

Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, paramount chief of the Anfoega Traditional Area, has been elected the new president of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs.

He polled 34 votes in the election on Thursday (15 October) while his main contender, Togbui Sri II, the Awoamefia of the Anlo State, won 18 votes.

Speaking to journalists shortly after his election, Togbe Hodo IV commended his fellow chiefs for voting wisely to uphold the political neutrality of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs.

“We have always maintained our political neutrality, and we think that the decision of the House was to the effect that they will not allow [that] anybody affects the political neutrality of the House,” he said. “That is what they established today through the election.”

Plans for House

“We are going to make some improvements and changes to the generality of the business of the House,’’ he said.

“We are hopeful that as we start a new chapter, we will do what it takes to make the House progress – I think computerisation of our records, improvement in staff training and a lot more.”

Asked whether he suspected that his opponent was politically biased, Togbe Hodo IV said: ‘‘Yes, it was all over the place; it was no news. But the chiefs who have voted today have voted that political neutrality must be maintained.’’

The House also elected Togbe Patamia Dzekley VII of Bator as vice-president.

Other new executives were elected to steer the affairs of the House of Chiefs for the next four years.
