COVID-19: Vaccination of 14,000 health workers begins in Volta Region

The five-day exercise is expected to cover a total of 14,450 health workers across all 18 municipalities and districts of the region

The Ghana Health Service has begun vaccinating health workers in the Volta Region against COVID-19, a statement has said.

The five-day vaccination exercise, which began on Thursday 25 March, is expected to cover 14,450 health workers in total across all 18 municipalities and districts of the region.

A statement issued and signed by Dr Senanu Kwesi Djokoto, the deputy regional director of the Ghana Health Service in charge of public health, said health workers account for one in every six cases in the Volta Region since the onset of the pandemic.

“Vaccination shall cover health workers in all public facilities, CHAG [Christian Health Association of Ghana] institutions, health training institutions, allied health facilities and private for-profit facilities,” it said.

The GHS statement added: “Since the beginning of the pandemic, our cherished health workers in the Volta Region have accounted for one out of six infections.”

The service further reminded residents to adhere strictly to the COVID-19 protocols in order to help contain the pandemic.
