NDC primaries: Eight candidates eye Avedzi’s Ketu North seat

The constituency’s election history has always been marked by a huge margin of victory for the NDC except in 2020

The incumbent member of parliament (MP) for the Ketu North Constituency, James Klutse Avedzi, will not contest in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary election on Saturday.

He has been MP for the constituency since 2005 and has held top offices in government under the NDC administration since 2004. Avedzi is the current chairman of the Public Accounts Committee.

In the 2020 general elections, he won the parliamentary seat against Kofi Dzamesi of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He won by a margin of about 4,000 votes. That was Avedzi’s fifth time of contesting the Ketu North seat.

The constituency’s election history has always been marked by a huge margin of victory for the NDC except in 2020.

Eight aspirants have shown interest in leading the party in the parliamentary elections. They have been vetted and approved for the election on Saturday.

The candidates are: Francis Seglah, John Kobla Adunu, Donald Senanu Agumenu, Edem Agbana, Prosper Yao Ledi, Gabriel Kwabla Adovoe, Don Emmanuel Agbanyo and Leonard Kwabla Nyakpo.

The former deputy national youth organizer of the party, Agbana, is the fourth candidate on the ballot. He pledged his commitment to developing the constituency when given the nod. He said, “I will bring …my national clouds and bring on board all my social network expertise and the social capital I have built to put Ketu North where it truly belongs.”

As the youngest among the candidates, Agbana said “the excellent MPs …are young”. He believes he can also be an excellent MP when given the opportunity on Saturday.

Ketu North is the only constituency with a highest number of parliamentary aspirants.
