COP Alex Mensah: I’ll win Asante Bekwai seat for NPP
The Asante Bekwai seat is currently being occupied by the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Joe Osei-Owusu, who is not running again

Commissioner of Police (rtd) George Alex Mensah is optimistic of winning the Asante Bekwai parliamentary seat in the Ashanti Region for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 general elections.
COP Mensah retired barely a week from the Ghana Police Service after 31 years of service.
The Asante Bekwai seat is currently being occupied by the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Joe Osei-Owusu, who is not running again.
Ambitions
Speaking to Asaase 99.5 Accra on Wednesday, COP Mensah said he had plans of practicing law or contesting as MP upon retirement.
“I am a chartered accountant and I had plans of practicing law during my retirement and I also had plans of running as a Member of Parliament in my hometown Asante Bekwai,” he said in an interview with Anass Seidu.
“So, these are the two plans I have. Whichever materialises I will be there. For now I am going to run as MP if they give me the nod.”
“Of course, I will win, who will go into a competition and will not win? Once you are going into a competition you have to know that you either win or lose.
“I will not pull out in the last minute. If I pull out, my people will be angry,” COP Mensah added.

Retirement
COP Mensah during his over 30 years of service in the police, served in various positions and until when he proceeded on leave pending retirement, he was the director general in charge of all Police operations nation-wide.
In the last few weeks, the now retired police commissioner became a household in Ghana following a leaked voice recording in which he is allegedly heard discussing the work of the current Inspector General of Police (IGP) George Akuffo Dampare and the need to remove him from office for mismanaging the Ghana Police Service.
The leaked audio recording is now a subject of investigation by a parliamentary adhoc committee. COP George Alex Mensah and other police officers have already appeared before the committee to give their testimonies about the leaked audio recording.
