George Lutterodt, a former president of the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) has called for the immediate dismissal of the technical team of the GAA for gross incompetence.
Ghana was over the weekend disqualified from the Commonwealth Games men’s 4x100m final at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, United Kingdom (UK) following a blunder by the technical team.
Coaches of the Ghana team failed to inform officials of their decision to replace Joseph Paul Amoah with Saminu in the heats to allow him to prepare for his 200m final.
Speaking to Kwaku Nhyira-Addo on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Monday (8 August) Lutterodt said, “It is not supposed [the disqualification] to happen and this is gross incompetence and I think the apology by the Ghana Athletic Association is not worth it.”
“The best way they can apologise to the Ghanaian people is to hand in their resignation letter immediately they arrive in this country or before.”
Lutterodt added, “Such a thing happened in 1996 at the Atalanta Olympic Games and immediately they returned to Ghana, the GAA was immediately dissolved and I hope drastic measures will be taken and this has exposed some of the things which are wrong with the GAA.”
He, however, commended the athletes for their exemplary performance at the Commonwealth Games.
