Wilmar Africa launches Fortune spread and Fortune all-purpose margarine

The company’s Fortune all-purpose margarine is enriched with vitamin A and D to boost nutritional values and is suitable for baking, toasting, cooking and spreading as a food enhancer

Wilmar Africa, a leading brand in the food and production industry, unveiled its Fortune spread and Fortune all -purpose margarine on Friday (15 March) in Tema.

The ceremony also marked the inauguration of Wilmar’s state-of-the-art factory, considered to be the largest margarine factory in Ghana.

The general manager of Wilmar Africa, Shaun Yeo, emphasised the company’s commitment to promoting locally produced goods and reducing reliance on imports.

“Very little of Ghana’s margarine and spreads are produced in Ghana. For industrial margarine, all players are importers, including shorteners for the biscuit and confectionary industries. To ensure freshness of the products and promote made-in Ghana products, Wilmar Africa, a leading importer, decided to establish a production facility here in Ghana,” he said.

He added that “these products have been fully registered with the FDA and passed all technical and market testing. Our factory is the first of its kind to produce industrial margarine and shortening in specifications tailored to our industrial partners preferences. These will go a long way towards helping local enterprises within the bread, pastries, and biscuit industries deliver value for their consumers.”

The head of marketing at Wilmar Africa, Ewuraba Adusei, who also spoke at the event, provided insights into the innovative features of the Fortune spread and Fortune all-purpose margarines.

“Today, we are thrilled to officially unveil our basket of goodness! Fortune all-purpose margarine is fortified with vitamin A and D to boost the nutritional values recommended daily for individuals. This product is suitable for baking, toasting, cooking, and spreading as a food enhancer. Fortune all-purpose margarine gives texture to food, enhances the shelf-life of foods, has a great mouthfeel, and adds to that unique culinary experience. It is rich and tasty with the right levels of oils and vitamins,” she said.

Promoting inter-trade businesses in Africa

Shaun Yeo also reaffirmed the company’s commitment to continued investment in Ghana, should the business environment remain conducive and supportive of local industries.

He called on the government and stakeholders to champion policies that promote trade and economic growth, enabling companies like Wilmar Africa to thrive and contribute to the country’s development.

The deputy minister of trade and industry, Michael Okyere Baafi, commended Wilmar’s efforts and reaffirmed the government’s dedication to bolstering local production.

‘’Let me take this opportunity to commend the management of Wilmar Africa Limited for believing in the corporate Ghana story, which is a compelling one. An additional investment made underscores the confidence that the private sector has in the government’s ongoing effort to turn the economic fortunes of the country around.”

The margarine factory is the 7th plant of Wilmar Africa. The company has already built plants refining crude palm oil from its plantations, packaging and distributing edible oils, rice, soaps and detergents.

The margarine plant, which is the largest in the country, has a total monthly capacity of 1,555 metric tonnes, producing shortening, all-purpose margarine and low-fat spread
