CLOGSAG backs call for removal of GES boss

In a statement on Wednesday (9 November), CLOGSAG advised the government to strictly adhere to provisions in the constitution on the appointment of public officers

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has expressed its support for striking teacher unions demanding the removal of the newly appointed director general of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Dr Eric Nkansah.

The leadership of three teacher unions comprising the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana, declared a strike on Friday 4 November 2022.

The industrial action comes after the expiration of an ultimatum the unions gave the government to revoke the appointment of Dr Eric Nkansah as the new GES boss. The teacher unions argue he does not have the requisite qualification for the job.

In a statement on Wednesday (9 November), CLOGSAG advised the government to strictly adhere to provisions in the constitution on the appointment of public officers.

“The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has been following with keen interest the impasse between the three teachers unions and the Ghana Education Service.

“Similar appointments in the civil service and the local government service are not conducive for industry harmony,” the statement said.

“A case in point is the appointment of registrar at the Births and Deaths Registry, that has culminated in a court action that is still pending,” the CLOGSAG statement said.
